I am a native of New York. I was raised half my life in Connecticut and the other half in Texas. As a child, I was brought up listening to mostly Khmer music. I remember listening to American music only when I was alone. In my family, listening to R & B and Hip Hop is frowned upon. I use to live in a small town for 3 years, where they played nothing but country music on radios and television. Country music is not my favorite genre, but I do actually like a few country songs! The first song I memorized was “How do I” by Leanne Rimes. I have a little bit of rebellious nature, so I did the opposite of what my parents wanted me to do. I also became the odd ball of my family as well. As an adolescent, I was then introduced to R & B, Hip Hop, Pop and other genres in Galveston.
This island is where I discovered that I have a passion for music that moves my soul. I loved the impact of music. I love how it can paint pictures in people’s minds and how it could be a source to deliver messages. I love the way talented artist would express raw emotions in their voice and in their lyrical contents. Throughout the years I’ve cultivated my voice, by listening to artist such as Boys II Men, Mary J. Blige, Mariah Carey, Lauryn Hill, and many more.
I wouldn’t say that I can ever compare to any of these great artist. I learned how to develop my own voice and to just sing deep from the core of my soul. To be able to sing for someone get them to feel what your singing , make them do a little critical thinking for a change, or just to know you gave them goose bumps… that would just make my day! I want to thank all of you who took the time to learn more about me. Eventually I guarantee that you will hear my voice!
