Perhaps he is the most humble and low key in terms of making a headline on newspapers or magazines, yet he is one of a very few best singers in Cambodia – not to mention about his abilities to play guitar and write music and lyrics. Sapoun (Sapoon) Midada was born 1980 in Kean Svay, Kondal province in a family of 5. He is the youngest child in the family among two other brothers. His father is Kim Sapoun who is the former Lokorn Basack actor and his mother name is Ben San, a housewife. He studied French in school. Sapoun Midada got inspired by the sound of his father’s fiddle (Khmer musical instrument called Trou) and always had a dream to be famous in musical art.
Most of his songs are love ones describing his true and heart-breaking story or sad ones about his appreciations toward his hometown or his parents. Since he writes songs himself, he is able to produce many meaningful and sentimental songs for his fans. As such both young and old audience loves his songs. He has been working for Reak Smey Hang Meas Production since 2000. He told people that musical art is and that he will never get tired of doing it because it is something he likes since he was young. He has no plan to leave this career for something new. There has not been a lot of new news about his love, except there was a confusion and rumor in 2005 about his engagement with Duch Sophea.
Personally, I like his voice better and Preap Sovath’s and most of his songs, like I said earlier, are in good taste and meaningful for most people. Dey Sre Bath Oun, Avey Avey Dembey Oun and Puk Euy Me Euy are some of the songs I like. By writing many famous singers’ and actors’ profiles, I can see Sapoun Midda has the least controversial stories. He seems to be a very honest person and the least advertised among other famous singers or actors, yet he is popular because of his character, values and quality. My analogy for him would be like Google – the giant search engine corporation which is the least advertised company but a very powerful and popular one because of its quality and values.
