Cambodian Singer Living the American Dream

imageAs a young child, Darany always loved to sing. But living in Cambodia, she knew her dreams of being a musician would be sourly looked upon from her parents. Being a female in the entertainment industry in Cambodia is probably one of the most unappreciated professions one can endure. Unlike in the United States where musicians, actors, and entertainers are worship like gods, in Cambodia with its strict moral codes and obligations there are less freedom of expression.

So when the opportunity for Darany to come and study in the United States opened, she jumped for joy with excitement. She came to the United States around 1999 to attend schooling. But her passion in life was singing, and it was a chance of luck that she met two Cambodian promoters that help jump start her singing career. The names of the promoters are Joran Leng and Dr. No. Darany, along with her younger sister Dariya began to perform seriously in 2003.

Her passion of singing took her on to tours of the United States with cities with a large population of Cambodians. At first her parents in Cambodia strongly disapprove but when they realize how much of an impact their daughters were making in the Cambodian community they were one of their biggest fans. Darany even own her own fashion store located in Cambodia Town, Long Beach. Her future goal is to open another retail outlet in Cambodia. Nowadays Darany can be seen performing at La Lune Restaurant in Long Beach, California on the weekends. Whenever the opportunity arises she will also tour other states and maybe even overseas. This is a prime example of how hard work and determination can lead to a successful and happy life. Darany is now enjoying the fruits of her labor and living the American Dream.
